Today, I lost a friend, and, as with all my sadness, I need to write.
Iggy was sunshine, he was bright, effervescent, beautiful. He believed in me without question, I could tell him I was about to conquer the world and he would be right at my side giving me tips and cheering me on.
He was loyal, unerring, witty, intelligent. He had sarcasm and humor in equal measure. Iggy was one of the smartest people I have met, and one of the most loving souls.
We last saw each other when I came home the other year and went to Cebu. Sadly, because of Covid-19, any get together this year was impossible. We had made plans of the different places we’d take each other to when he would finally come home.
But he died today. He was depressed and had anxiety… And none of that sunshine that he carried for all of us to bask in could save him. I wonder if maybe I was not there enough for him. Maybe if I had been more observant, read between the lines. But he never answered my last message so I thought that because his career was taking off again, and he was happily in love, he was just busy.
I thought wrong. If any of you readers are suffering from depression or anxiety, please see a professional therapist. Please find someone to talk to. And if there is nowhere safe for you enough to speak – you can always try and talk to me. 💜 I mean it.
